New students can access Sisu with their credentials 2–3 days after their right to study begins, once their user account has been activated. If they wish, they can already create the basic structure of their study plan in advance, but guidance for creating the plan and registering for courses is provided by tutors at the beginning of studies. Tutors also provide content-related guidance for the study plan.

Have you activated your user account? Have you waited 2–3 nights after activation? User accounts are activated according to these instructions, and there is a delay before the credentials are transferred to Sisu. Note that if you log in to Sisu before your right to study has begun, Sisu will indicate that you do not have a valid right to study or enrollment.

If you have activated your account and waited three nights, there may be an issue with password synchronization. Check that you can log in with your username and password to another service, such as Moodle. If you can log in to Moodle, you should also be able to log in to Sisu using the same credentials.

If you still cannot access Sisu, the most likely reason is that your password has not been updated correctly. In this case, change your password via the LUT user account service. If this does not help, contact the student IT Helpdesk for assistance.

The progress indicators on the front page are based on the student’s primary study plan that corresponds to their right to study. If no indicator is shown, your study plan most likely does not match your right to study.
Check whether there is a notification bar in your study plan stating:
“You do not have a right to study corresponding to your study plan or you are not enrolled for the current academic term.”

If this message is visible, create a new study plan. After that, the progress indicator should appear on the front page.

If you have created new study plan, be sure that it is primary.

Due to the change in the student information system, your student number will change. 

Go to Sisu. In the top right corner, you’ll see your name. Click the small arrow next to your name to open a menu, where one of the options is “Give feedback.

New degree students receive help from tutors with using all systems at the beginning of the academic year. At a minimum, a basic study plan must be created in order to register for teaching, but assistance is provided once studies begin. We recommend familiarizing yourself with the Sisu study plan instructions.

The study plan does not need to be content-wise complete or correct. It is sufficient that all courses you register for can be found somewhere in the structure of your study plan. Study plans evolve as studies progress and are intended to be updated accordingly.

When you begin your studies as a new student and create your first study plan in Sisu during your first academic year, the default curriculum period is the current academic year. If you started earlier, you can choose the curriculum period corresponding to your starting year or a later one.

For continuing students, the choice depends on how far along you are in your studies and which curriculum you have mostly followed. For example, if you are returning to studies after a break and have completed only a few courses, it is usually advisable to select the current academic year. If you are unsure, a tutor teacher can help you with the choice.

You do not need to recreate the entire study plan. Instead, unfinished or incomplete study modules and courses can be updated by changing their versions via the “Version” menu at the top of the course or module description (accessed via the blue code link in the study plan).

• If a study module has not been started or is clearly incomplete and its structure has changed significantly in the new curriculum, it is recommended to change the module to a newer version, taking equivalencies into account. Note that selections made in the old version will not be retained, and you will need to make new selections according to the new curriculum.
• If only individual course completions are missing from a module and teaching is no longer offered according to the old curriculum, you can change the version of individual courses to a newer one. If no newer version exists and no equivalency has been defined in the Equivalencies tab of the course description, contact xxxx.

The version of the entire degree programme can also be changed, if necessary, via the “Version” menu at the top of the degree programme description (blue code link in the study plan). Note that selections made under the old curriculum will not be retained after changing the version.

If you move entirely to a new curriculum, you may also create a completely new study plan. However, handling equivalencies from previous curricula is more difficult in that case. For this reason, we primarily recommend updating the existing study plan where necessary. You may have multiple study plans in Sisu, but make sure that the correct plan is set as primary, so that your study attainments are recorded correctly and on time.

If courses included in the structure of an old curriculum are no longer taught, open the course description by clicking the blue course code link in your study plan. Then change the course version to the new one in the “Version:” menu at the top of the course description, located under the course name and code.

Please note that you must confirm the version change in your study plan via the blue notification bar that appears at the top of the window. You can also change the version for a full study module or degree programme, provided that the module has not been started or is only partially completed. If no version is available, see the next question. 
 

If no new version of the course is available, check the course substitutions to see whether you can replace it in your plan with either a previously completed equivalent course or a course from the new curriculum.

To do this, click the blue course code link in your study plan and open the Substitutions tab in the course description. Please note that not all equivalences may have been defined yet, so some information might be missing. If needed, ask the course teacher for guidance. The teacher can request updates from the administration so that the substitution can be added, if it is appropriate and possible.

If your study structure is highly exceptional and substitutions cannot be used, switch to free edit mode. Please note that free edit mode is intended only for personal exceptions and should be used only when you are certain that no other solution is available. 

Study modules from the old curriculum period cannot currently be added to a study plan based on the new curriculum. In these cases, add any missing courses from partially completed study modules to the Elective studies section of your plan. Add the full study module to your plan only once it has been completed and appears in Sisu as a module completion.

Individual courses that were added without the module will disappear from the plan once they are attached to the study module.

If the courses cannot be found through the search within the study plan, you can search for them separately under the Search tab, add them to your Course basket, and then place them into your study plan using the “Place in the plan” panel on the left. If you cannot find the required course through search or in the structure, please submit feedback through the feedback form. The administration can then check the course’s validity information or advise you to choose a substitute course. 

Courses placed in the study plan, as well as those added using the free edit mode, often require a separate approval for the study module. In that cases, you may see red marks in your study plan and the notification "against the rules" or “not included in your degree structure.” This does not mean that anything has been done incorrectly. It simply tells that Sisu recognizes the course as deviating from the original degree structure. In these situations, you need apply for module content approval. NOTE: Approval can only be granted starting from August 2026, so red indicators may remain in the study plan until then.

1. Is your study plan based on the correct programme under My educations in the curriculum creation window?
2. Have you selected the curriculum period according to the start year of your studies?
3. Has your study right already started?

If you log in to Sisu before your study right begins (for example in July, when your study right starts on 1 August), you will not yet have an active study right or a valid attendance registration. 

Study tracks are confirmed centrally by the administration. An unconfirmed study track does not prevent you from planning your studies, and the correct track will appear once it has been confirmed by the administration.

If you believe your study track should already be visible but it does not appear in Sisu, please contact Student Services. 

In Sisu, some complementary studies must be confirmed as part of your study right. Certain complementary courses require separate approval from the teacher, after which you will receive confirmation that you are allowed to complete the course. This notification does not prevent you from planning your studies or registering for courses, but the selections should be confirmed before graduation. 

In spring 2026, you cannot yet submit substitution or inclusion applications in Sisu. 
Applications must still be submitted in Peppi. Instructions for this will be published during summer 2026, and you will be able to submit applications starting from August 2026.

First, check with your tutor teacher what content should be included in your study plan and under which headings.

Then switch to free edit mode at the required heading by clicking the three dots on the right side of the heading, and then selecting the three‑dot menu in the panel that opens on the right. Use free edit mode only if you have no other options available.

Please note that degree programme structures in Sisu may contain several nested headings. Make sure you are on the correct level of the degree structure before entering free edit mode, and that you have selected all necessary subheadings in your study plan. 

Also note that the free edit tool should be used only in carefully considered, exceptional individual cases. Before using free edit mode, ensure that it is truly necessary. Remember to request approval for any changes made in free edit mode via the selection assistant before exiting free edit mode. Once the exception is approved, the degree structure returns to an approved and rule‑compliant state. 

You have made changes in free edit mode, submitted them for approval, and then modified the structure again afterwards. These new changes do not affect the earlier application, which still exists in Sisu with its old proposed content.

Click the sub‑heading or study module where the notification appears (the three dots on the right side of the heading) to open the selection assistant. At the top of the selection assistant, click “Show” to view the details of the application. Then click either “Cancel application” (if it is still pending) or “Withdraw approval” (if it has already been approved). You can then submit a new application with the correct content if needed. 

You have added elective studies unnecessarily through free edit mode. Free edit mode should only be used for modifying required parts of the degree structure when needed—not for elective studies.

1. Click the three dots on the right side of the Elective studies heading to open the selection assistant. If you have submitted an application for an exception, click “Show” at the top of the selection assistant to view the application. Then choose either “Cancel application” (if it is still pending) or “Withdraw approval” (if it has already been approved).
2. Remove the courses placed under the wrong heading by unchecking the selection box next to each course and saving the change. Then choose and add the correct courses to your elective studies. 

According to Sisu’s basic logic, studies are first planned, then a course implementation and a method of completion are selected, and finally registration takes place. In practice, this means that you should first add the courses you plan to complete to your study plan, and then go to the Registration tab to register for the implementations. 

Admission to a course implementation is determined by implementation-specific selection criteria, which can be viewed on the Methods of Completion tab of the course description. Students are admitted based on their teaching group priorities (primary / suitable / not suitable).

The “not suitable” priority should be used carefully and only when you have no possibility of participating in the teaching. Otherwise, Sisu may remove you entirely if you do not fit into the primary or “suitable” groups. 

All course implementations and their details are shown under the Teaching section on the Methods of Completion tab of the course description. You can compare schedules of different implementations or teaching groups in the calendar view before registering.

(The calendar feature will be introduced during the 2026–2027 academic year and is not yet available in autumn 2026.)

The registration period and any selection criteria used for admitting students can be found in the details of the selected course implementation on the Registration tab. 

As a general rule, you should wait until your right to study has been transferred to Sisu. 

All teaching offered for a course is shown on the Methods of Completion tab of the course description. The implementation can be added to the calendar, and you can register for it normally during the registration period. Independent study implementations typically use direct confirmation, meaning that students who meet the basic requirements are admitted immediately. 

If the registration period is still open, or if the registration period has ended but a cancellation period is in use, you can cancel your registration. This is done via the study calendar by clicking the arrow next to the implementation you wish to cancel in the list on the right-hand side. A Cancel registration link can be found at the bottom of the view that opens.

If no cancellation period is available, you can discontinue the course. Note: After discontinuing, you cannot register yourself again for the same implementation. 

Instructions will be provided later.

You can register for autumn CampusOnline cross-studies in August.

No, you cannot. Sisu prevents registration for multiple different teaching croups of the same course. Therefore, the student must choose one teaching group and register for that one.

Study attainments are listed under Personal details → Attainments. You can access this section via the top navigation bar in Sisu. By default, the view shows approved attainments. You can switch the view to failed or expired attainments using the dropdown menu in the header. 

1. Make sure your study plan corresponds to your right to study (there is no warning stating “You do not have a right to study corresponding to your study plan”).
    
2. Make sure the correct study plan is marked as primary. You can change the primary status from the three-dot menu next to the study plan name. Secondary plans can be deleted.
    
3. Make sure that the course you are completing is included in your primary study-right-specific study plan. 
   If the course is missing from your study plan and you have registered for an ongoing implementation, you can add it to your primary study plan via the Place in the plan panel. Sisu will then also prompt you to select the correct completion method for the course.

You can also search for the course using the Search tab, add it to your course basket, and then place it into your primary study-right-specific plan through the Place in the plan panel. 
Alternatively, in your study plan you can navigate to a heading level that includes a search field for courses and add it directly from there.

4. Make sure a method of completion has been selected for the course. Open the course description (blue course code link), go to the Methods of Completion tab, and click “Select this method” for the appropriate option. If no methods are visible, switch the course to the latest version via the “Version” menu and confirm the change in the blue notification bar. 

All completed courses must be included in the primary study plan corresponding to your right to study, and the correct method of completion must be selected to ensure that the completion is recorded correctly and on time. The full course completion is automatically generated during the night following the partial completion.

Check the following:

• Is the correct study plan set as your primary plan? 
  If you have multiple study plans, make sure that the correct one is marked as primary.
   
• Is your study plan aligned with your study right? 
  If your study plan shows the message “You do not have a study right corresponding to your study plan”, create a new study plan and select the correct programme from the My educations section. Also ensure that the curriculum period (OPS) is selected according to your start year.
   
• Is the course (in the correct version) included in your primary study-right-specific plan? 
  You can add a course to any section of your plan that includes a course search field (for example, Elective studies). You can also search for the course under the Search tab, add it to your course basket, and then place it into the plan using the Place in the plan panel on the left.

If necessary, change the course version by opening the course description, selecting the appropriate version from the “Version:” menu under the course name and code, and confirming the change from the blue notification bar at the top of the window.

• Has the correct completion method been selected for the course? 
  If the course and the correct version are already in your study plan, make sure that the correct completion method is selected on the Completion methods tab in the course description—the method that matches the course implementation you completed. 
  If the tab shows nothing or shows completion methods from the wrong curriculum period, change the course version as described above and confirm the change in the blue notification bar. The course completion should be compiled during the following night.
   
• Have you waited overnight? 
  If the course is in the correct place in your primary study plan and the right completion method is selected, wait until the next day. The course completion should be compiled automatically overnight. 
   

All passed study credits have not yet been transferred from Peppi to Sisu. Credits will be transferred during spring, and you will only be able to see all your completed studies in Sisu in August.

The credits you have completed will remain safely stored and do not need to be retaken, even if they are not currently visible. 

There is a Give feedback section in Sisu, that you can use in August if credits for completed studies are still missing.
