LAB-Duuni

LAB-Duuni is a model of recognizing prior learning acquired at work in studies. You may have gained prior skills and knowledge on your field of study e.g. at work, organisational work, leasure activities or at voluntary work either before your studies or during them.To apply LAB-Duuni you have to discuss with your teacher tutor or teacher how to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.

Yoop supports students in taking advantage of the entrepreneurship competence acquired outside formal education and integrate it into their degrees. It helps students recognise their entrepreneurship competence and provides helpful information and tips for how to apply for the recognition of prior learning as part of the degree to earn credits. Including competences received from work in studies / Recognition of acquired skills received from prior learning at work

1. A student having work experience acquired before the studies is planning to include these competences in studies.

The student familiarizes precisely with study plan, curriculum learning outcomes, learning competences of own study field and the evaluation criteria.

2. Booking an appointment with teacher tutor / teacher to discuss about study plan.

The student meets with the teacher tutor or teacher to discuss how the prior work experience meets with the learning objectives of the curriculum.

3. Agreeing how to demonstrate skills and to complete them if necessary

The student and the teacher tutor/teacher agree how the prior learning is demonstrated.
Sometimes completing prior skills and knowledge is necessary, and the ways to complete them are agreed together with teacher tutor / teacher.
The student applies for (Peppi will end dueing the summer 2026) RPL in Peppi (eRPL) and chooses there ”Add previously acquired competence”

4. Demonstration and evaluation of skills and knowledge

The student demonstrates the skills and knowledge with the way agreed.

Including competences received from work in studies / Working during studies

1. A student having work experience during the studies is planning to include these competences in studies

Students will be familiarised with the curriculum, the learning outcomes, the competences and assessment criteria in their field.

2. Booking an appointment with teacher tutor / teacher to discuss about study plan

The student, teacher tutor / teacher agree on how the student's work relates to the learning outcomes of the curriculum.
Review of ways of skill demonstration e.g. report, video, portfolio. Discuss assessment and credit accumulation.

3. Making apparent the competences developed at work (student, teacher, employer)

Agree a work as part of your studies with your contact person or workplace supervisor.
The content of the work and/or the curriculum can be adapted to meet the learning outcomes of the degree program.

4. Demonstration and evaluation of skills and knowledge (student, teacher, employer)

The student demonstrates the skills and knowledge with the way agreed. Documentation, self-assessment, assessment by the employer or, for example, an assessment interview (self-assessment and/or peer assessment, assessment by a employer/teacher).
