LAB offers you versatile opportunities to gain international experience and increase your intercultural competence. Our 850 foreign degree students and 330 exchange students create a truly international study environment. If going abroad does not suite you, you can internationalise yourself also at LAB campuses!

Studies in English

LAB offers 7 degree programmes taught entirely in English and in addition a large variety of individual courses in English for all the students at LAB. This creates an international and multicultural learning environment and gives you great tools to work in international projects.The guest lecturers from our partner institutions bring their international expertise and enhance the language and cultural knowledge of our students.

Language and Communication Studies

Students at LAB are provided with wide and versatile language and intercultural communication studies. In addition to compulsory language studies, you can take language and intercultural courses as complementary studies. More information available on the website of Language Center.

International intensive programmes in Finland

You have an opportunity to participate in international intensive programmes organised at LAB, both in Lahti and Lappeenranta. The length of the study programme is usually 1-2 weeks, and you will gain international experience conveniently at home. Intensive weeks are designed together with LAB partner universities and networks around the world. Read more about intensive weeks.

Meet a Local Friend programme

If you are an international student studying at LAB, you have a chance to participate in the Meet a Local Friend programme which brings together international students with Finnish students or local friends and families. The aim is to help the international students to learn more about Finnish culture and everyday life. In return, the students give the host families a greater understanding and appreciation of culture.

If you are a Finnish student, you can participate the programme as a host family. And hey, do not worry if you don’t have a big house with a garden, wife and two kids, we welcome all sorts of families into the programme! It does not matter if you live alone either - what matters is that international students get a glimpse of Finnish life! Read more.

Tutoring international student

All LAB degree students can be a tutor student for international degree and exchange students. It is a great way to get new friends from all over the world, learn about new cultures and improve language skills. Further information available from Student Union KOE.
