Complement your personal study plan with cross-institutional studies

Cross-institutional studies allow you to expand your study opportunities by studying at another higher education institution and incorporating the studies into your degree. To enroll for cross-institutional studies you must have the right to study as a degree, exchange, or Open UAS path student at a Finnish higher education institution. The studies are free of charge.

Open UAS path students: Sisu currently has an issue that prevents Open UAS students from enrolling through the Cross-Institutional Study Service. As a result, path students' cross-institutional study enrolments are automatically rejected. A fix has been requested from the system provider, but the timeline for the correction has not yet been confirmed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Note! As an exchange student at LAB, you can enroll for studies at other higher education institutions if the studies are part of your learning agreement. As an open UAS path student at LAB, you can enroll for studies at other higher education institutions if the studies are eligible as part of your path studies.

Cross-institutional education networks and their target groups

LAB is involved in several cross-institutional networks. Some are large and multidisciplinary (e.g. CampusOnline) and others are limited and targeted at a small group of people.

Adding cross-institutional courses to study plan and registration

First see which cross-institutional study networks are linked to your study right.
Go to My profile - Study rights

Next scroll down to reach "Network right to be included in the study right". This section displays the networks you can participate in. These study rights are typically given for one academic year, during which you must complete all required parts of the course assessments.

Next go to the "Search" section in the top banner and select "Cross-institutional courses".

Select the correct network from the “Cross-institutional network” drop-down menu, then scroll down until you see the correct course click the name of the course you want to attend.

Then click "ADD TO THE PLAN."

The "Place the course in the plan" window will open. If needed, set the study plan as your primary plan and choose the target module for the course. Click "CONTINUE" to proceed.

You must preview and confirm your selections. If everything is in order, click "CONFIRM AND GO TO PLAN."

The course is now visible in the structure.

Don't forget to register for the course!

Go to the "Registration" menu.

Search for the course and click "Select a course implementation".

Make your selections and click "Confirm."

If registration for the implementation is open, please register at the same time.

Please double-check the information. Unlike when registering for LAB courses, you must give your consent for your information to be shared through the Cross-Institutional Study Information Service.

CampusOnline AMK ja CampusOnline YAMK

Campusonline is a joint network of Finnish universities of applied sciences that brings together the online courses of more than 20 universities of applied sciences.

The courses are free of charge for degree students (Bachelor’s/Master’s) at universities of applied sciences and for Open UAS path students.

The CampusOnline portal is closed on 31.12.2024. The cross-institutional study opportunities offered by the CampusOnline network will remain. LAB will publish its own CampusOnline courses only through the cross-institutional study information service "Ripa".

The studies offered in the network are completed entirely online. The course concepts may vary, however.

Some studies are completed independently by a specified deadline, and some courses contain lots of group work completed online and more limited schedules. Please check carefully the modes of implementation in each course description.

CampusOnline courses offered by other universities for LAB students

On the Search -tab in Sisu, find the course you wish in Cross-institutional courses -section. Click on the course, and you will find the Add to the plan -button there.
In your study plan, move the course under Complementary Competence.
Register for the course implementation.
Once the teacher at the host university approves your registration for the first time, you will receive a confirmation email regarding your study right. When your registration is approved, a temporary study right will be created for you at the host institution. The host university will provide further instructions on how to start your studies, including information about any user accounts or credentials you may need.
You can track the status of your registration on the Registrations tab in Sisu. The status will be updated when your registration is approved, rejected, or changed from rejected to approved.
After you have completed the course and it has been assessed by the teacher at the host university, the grade will be transferred directly from the host institution to Sisu. Any opportunities to retake the course or improve your grade must be checked with the host institution.

Instructions for incoming students

Enrollment

You can enroll in the cross-institutional studies offered by LAB University of Applied Sciences if you have an active study right in your home university. When your study right at your home university ends, so does your right to study cross-institutional studies.

When your enrollment is accepted, rejected or changed from rejected to accepted, you will receive a notification in your home university's studyinformatioinsystemview.

Study right

You will only have a study right to the studies for which your enrollment has been accepted. The duration of the right to study is determined by the duration of the course until the end of the academic year.

Cancelling your enrollment

The enrollment is binding. If you are unable to participate in the course you have enrolled in, please cancel your enrollment, so the next in line can be accepted. You can cancel your enrollment in Peppi when the enrollment period is ongoing and you haven't been accepted to the course yet. If the enrollment period has ended and you wish to cancel, please contact the course teacher.

Signing in to LAB Moodle learning management system

When your enrollment to a LAB UAS course is accepted, sign in to LAB Moodle by using the "Shibboleth HAKA Login” button. Select your home university from the list and then log in normally using your credentials.

The course page can be found in Moodle after the teacher has opened the course area, not before. If there is an enrollment key in the course, you will get it by email with additional instructions before the course starts. Find the course in Moodle with the course code and register on the course page.

Course content and timetable

See the course descriptions for information on course content and assessment criteria.

If a course has time-bound teaching, this is told in the course descriptions. You can view the teaching schedules in TimeEdit. Select Timetables of courses, enter the course code in the "Search Implementation" field, and click Search.

Assessment

The assessment of the courses is based on the LAB UAS degree regulations, according to which the final grade for a course will be entered into student files within 30 days of the final study attainment related to the course.

The assessment given at the LAB UAS is automatically transferred to your home university's student information system.

Defining concepts

Cross-institutional studies = An opportunity for a student to study at another higher education institution. Based on agreements between higher education institutions.

Cross-Institutional Study Information Service (Ripa) = A national service, accessed through the university's student information system (Peppi).

Home university = The higher education institution, where the student has a degree or Open UAS path student right and from where the student goes to study cross-institutional studies.

Host university = The higher education institution the student is enrolled in through the Cross-Institutional Study Information Service.
