Master's Degree - Recognition of Prior Learning (eRPL)
RPL - Recognition of Prior Learning. The process is for students who want the recognition of prior learning as part of the qualification to be obtained, either for compulsory or elective studies. In this way, the student does not have to re-learn things/skills that he/she already has.
From March 2022, all previously acquired knowledge and CampusOnline courses taken during your studies must be completed via Peppi's eRPL.
The RPL process is always initiated by the student. At the beginning of the studies, the student evaluates his/her previous learning in relation to the learning outcomes set out in the curriculum. Learning outcomes can be found on study guide. The student begins creating the personal study plan (PSP) together with the tutoring teacher. Study guidance discussions are mandatory in the RPL process and they help the student with filling in the application.
Recognition of prior learning can be made at any point during studies for a degree student who has registered as attending and has a valid study right at LAB UAS.
RPL principles for Masters
Students completing a degree may, based on a decision given by the university of applied sciences, transfer credits from studies they have carried out at another higher education institution in Finland or abroad or another educational institution and thus substitute studies in the degree with other studies of the same level. (Degree regulations 25 §) The previous studies must be Master-level studies. (EQF/NQF 7)
Studies that date back no more than ten years may be included in the degree. As a rule, studies that exceed the degree’s required credit limit will not be included in the degree. (Degree regulations 25 §)
The assessment of the RPL application takes the level, credits, content, and completion date of transfer studies into consideration as well as the requirements of the degree the student is completing.
The original grade from previous studies will be registered to students PSP at LAB UAS. In case the prior competence does not equal to the UAS unit, the grade can be transformed to “pass”.
In the Master’s degree prior studies or competence can be included as part of elective studies following the requirements of the degree:
- Specialization studies at University of Applied Sciences (10 or 15 ects)
- Specialization studies at University or Polytechnic, aimed to Masters. (10 or 15 ects)
- University grades (advanced special studies)
- Vocational teacher education (10 – 15 ects)
Studies from a degree creating the eligibility to apply for a degree pursued at the LAB UAS cannot be recognised.
