Supervised clinical training is a major part of studying in the field of health care and social services. During the training the student gets acquainted with practical tasks related to their professional studies and has a chance to apply their knowledge and skills in the working life.

Before your practical training:
If you have young customers/patients (less than 18-year-olds), you need to order and show the study counsellor a criminal record extract 4 weeks before your practical training.

The student must have his/her own dosimeter during the practical training when required by the traineeship organisation and the tasks of the traineeship. The dosimeter must be reserved in good time from the school.

Before studification:
Valid after: 1.8.2022: When planning studification, where you act with young customers/patients (less than 18-year-olds), you need to show the study counsellor a criminal record extract before starting your work period. You need to show the criminal record extract, even though the work period would take place during your employment relationship, even if you have already shown the document during your recruitment process. The duration of the training

Clinical training in nursing education consists of 90 ECTS credits. It includes 75 ECTS of clinical training in real client situations and 15 ECTS of thesis, which is closely connected to developing the working life practices. EU directives determine the boundaries and training environments of the clinical training in the field of health care.

Making clinical training contract

To start the clinical training, you must provide the information about the clinical training place on the e-form. The training contract is used to agree on the implementation of a supervised training period related to university of applied sciences studies at the workplace. The e-form was updated on January 9, 2026, resulting in a single form for all social and health care programs. The e-form must be completed four weeks before the start of the training period.

The student must fill in the required information carefully. Forms with incomplete information cannot be used to create a contract. Once the student has filled in the form their part, a representative of the education sector will prepare the agreement for signing. The contract will be signed electronically by the director of the welfare unit and the person authorized to sign on behalf of the placement organization.

In order to fill out the form, the student must know the name of the person authorized to sign on behalf of the placement organization, their title, their email address, and their phone number. The person authorized to sign will be notified of the contract to be signed via text message.

The signatory to the contract must be authorized to sign, i.e., a person who has legal authority to represent the organization or community and make binding decisions by signing documents. The phone number must be such that text messages can be sent to it.

Clinical training contract will made based on the information provided in the e-form, so please fill information carefully! Clinical training place and LAB may have a general contract, in which case a separate agreement will not be sent to the training place. Check if the contract has been made from “Placement contract list”.  In any case, the practical training place information must be filled in on the e-form, even if the general contract exists!

Note! From 1.1.2023, traineeship allowances in the social and health care sector will be paid by the state, no longer by the university of applied sciences.
