Study rights

Anyone who is accepted as a student and who have enrolled as attending accordingly has a study right. You can only participate in studies and exams, as well as get grades into student register if you are enrolled as attending.

Study right at LAB University of Applied Sciences, Bachelor's degrees

Normative study duration

3,5–4 years (or 7–8 semesters) depending on the degree scope 210–240 ects.
Study information system code is "LÄ".

Statutory extra time

1 year (or 2 semesters).
Study information system code is "LÄ1".

Absence periods

No more than 2 semesters after first year of study.
Only possible during the normative study time or statutory extra time.
Study information system code is "PO".

Discretionary extra time

Possible after the statutory extra time if no more than 60 ects are missing.
No more than 1 year (or 2 semesters).
No possibility of absence.
Study information system code is "LÄ2".

Supplementing degree studies at Open UAS

If more than 60 ects are missing after the statutory extra time a student can supplement their studies at LAB's Open UAS.
A student completes studies according to a study plan until no more than 60 ects are missing from their degree.
Study information system code is "AVOIN".

Temporary study right

Can be granted when there are no more than 60 ects missing and
1. the applicant's degree studies at a Finnish UAS were not completed or
2. the applicant has resigned from a Finnish UAS or
3. a student at LAB has supplemented their studies at Open UAS.
No more than 1 year (or 2 semesters).
No possibility of absence.
Study information system code is "MA".

Study right at LAB University of Applied Sciences, Master's degrees

Normative study duration

2–2,5 years (or 4–5 semesters) depending on the degree scope 60–90 ects.
Study information system code is "LÄ".

Statutory extra time

Maximum 1 semester (autumn or spring term). Updated in the degree regulations from 1.8.2024.
Study information system code is "LÄ1".

Absence periods

No more than 2 semesters after first year of study.
Only possible during the normative study time or statutory extra time.
Study information system code is "PO".

Discretionary extra time

Possible after the statutory extra time if no more than 30 ects are missing.
No more than 1 year (or 2 semesters).
No possibility of absence.
Study information system code is "LÄ2".

Supplementing degree studies at Open UAS

If more than 30 ects are missing after the statutory extra time a student can supplement their studies at LAB's Open UAS.
A student completes studies according to a study plan until no more than 30 ects are missing from their degree.

1. the applicant's Master's degree studies at a Finnish UAS were not completed or
2. the applicant has resigned from a Finnish UAS or
3. a student at LAB has supplemented their studies at Open UAS.

Appeals

If you are not happy with the decision, you can request for rectification with the rector. You must deliver a written appeal with reasons (for example, the conditions for an extension are met) to LAB’s document services within 14 days of the receipt of rejection.

Should the appeal also be rejected, you can lodge a further appeal with the Eastern Finland Administrative Court.
