AI-based tools policies
Guidance for students on using AI applications in their studies at LUT Universities
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications to support learning is to be encouraged, as AI is one of today's work-life skills. The use of AI applications must be responsible and ethical. In addition, the use of AI applications must comply with and take into account the obligations arising from legislation and follow the guidelines of the LUT Universities.
Artificial intelligence is used in many applications and software. For example, search engines, translation applications, virtual assistants, navigation applications and online shops can use AI.
These guidelines focus on generative AI applications that can create text, video, images, sound, programming code, etc. These include ChatGPT, Bing Chat, Midjourney, DALL-E and Grammarly.
The principles of using AI tools must be made clear to students. This can be done during orientation, study guidance, student portals, course introductions in Moodle, thesis seminars and methodology courses. Students have an active responsibility to act on the information they receive and to recognise the disadvantages of AI tools.
Note! This guidance replaces the AI tool practices previously published on 21.02.2023 on eLAB.
