What overalls?

They are used at various student events, but it is not recommended to wear overalls at some events. You should always check what the dress code is. When you put on overalls make sure that the logo in the back is clearly visible, and it is recommended to get a good belt. You can buy overalls from your student association.

Overalls rules:

• You can’t wash overalls in washing machine, they should be washed dressed on
• Change sleeve = Friendship
• Change overalls leg = Relationship
• If you have two university degrees you can put your overalls in half and sew them back together.

The most important thing is that you make your overalls look just like you! You can decorate them, sew them full on overalls badges, exchange sleeves with ten friends or you can do almost anything with them. Overalls describe you and there are no limits with them.

You can earn overalls badges by attending various events and also buy them online or from student associations. They are then sewn into overalls to decorate them

Sitz party is an academic table party where you eat, drink and sing according to etiquette and most importantly get to know new people. Freshmen are introduced to etiquette during a Freshman Sitz (if held) or the etiquette is often repeated in the beginning of a sitz party.

At a sitz party you often have pre-defined seats at long tables and the table of the sitz leaders (a.k.a. toastmasters) is located somewhere in the front of the venue.

Toastmasters are the ones who everyone at the sitz party must listen to. Their “word is the law” and their rules must be obeyed.

A short checklist for your first sitz party:

• Before Sitz do not drink
• Be on time!
• At the sitz listen to the toastmaster/-s
• There is usually a theme so dress accordingly
• Obey to the rules, there can be punishments if you don’t follow them

In the end it’s so much fun, and you can’t experience that anywhere else!

Bar hopping event where you visit different bars/restaurants around the city. Low threshold for participation.

Biggest appros in Lappeenranta is Karjalan approt and in Lahti is Aleksanterinkadun appro.

Student Union KOE also organizes KOEputki appro in both Lappeenranta and Lahti.

Most known appros in Finland are Hämeenkadun appro in Tampere, Pikku Laskiainen in Turku, Kauppakadun appro in Jyväskylä and Helsinginkadun appro in Helsinki.

Wappu (or vappu) is an annual celebration for May 1st, but for students Wappu celebrations can vary between a week or up to a month In Lappeenranta

As part of Wappu celebrations one main event is the capping of statues on the 30th of April.
It is a long-standing tradition in Finnish university cities!

In Lappeeranta the crane statue will be given its own caps at Maria Square.

In Lahti the Moose statue is given an engineer cap at Paasikivi park (Paasikivenpuisto).

An event which is intended mainly for freshmen. Students will go around in groups (usually 4-6 people) doing tasks on different kind of checkpoints and try to collect points.

The theme varies every year.

A free sauna evening held by killat or student associations at the sauna space of LOAS PK5, which is Punkkerikatu 5, Lappeenranta.
