Scholarship requirements

No scholarships are granted during the first year of studies at LAB University of Applied Sciences.

On the second, third and fourth year of your studies the Student Services evaluate your transcript of records from the previous academic year (1 August–31 July or 1 January–31 December) to ensure whether you are applicable for a scholarship.
- For those who began their studies in August, academic year 1 August–31 July is considered.
- For those who began their studies in January, academic year 1 January–31 December is considered.
Only credits completed at LAB University of Applied Sciences during the previous academic year will be considered as long as they are included in your personal study plan.
- CampusOnline and exchange studies are taken into consideration, if they have been completed during your active study time at LAB University of Applied Sciences.
- Make sure to consult your teacher tutor when selecting complementary studies.

Requirements for scholarship, starting 1 August 2026

The scholarship is a 3000€ reduction on the annual tuition fee.
A student must complete 60 credits during the first academic year to be eligible for the scholarship.
During the second and third year, the credits must accumulate steadily over the duration of your studies:
- Bachelor's degree programmes: 60 credits after the first year, 120 credits after the second year and 180 credits after the third year.
There is no scholarship for continuing master’s degree students as the entire degree is paid at once

Requirements for scholarship, started before autumn 2026

The scholarship is a 50% reduction on the annual tuition fee.
A student must complete 60 credits during the first academic year to be eligible for the scholarship.
During the second and third year, the credits must accumulate steadily over the duration of your studies:
- Bachelor's degree programmes: 60 credits after the first year, 120 credits after the second year and 180 credits after the third year.
- Master's degree programmes: 20 credits after the first year, 40 credits after the second year.

Please note: The ECTS limit has been raised to 60 ECTS starting Academic year 2021–2022 (as of 1 August 2021). This policy will be applied until the end of the normative study time. If only attending one semester during the billing year,the credit limit for the scholarship is 30 ECTS.

Scholarship for Transfer student

The annual tuition fee is determined according to the current tuition fee policy at LAB. From 2026 the regular tuition fee is 11 000 EUR per year.

When transferring to LAB from another Finnish higher education institution an early bird discount of 2 000 EUR is offered for the first study year at LAB. With the discount the LAB's first year fee is 9 000 EUR.

The first year tuition fee is compulsory for transfer students, even if planning to be absent. In case of a statutory absence, it is possible to carry over the paid first year tuition fee by contacting scholarship@lab.fi.

The student must advance their studies according to the study plan by at least 60 credits per year in order to be eligible for a 3 000 EUR scholarship (discount) in the next years. Credits must be accumulated cumulatively, 60 credits after the first year, 120 credits after the second year and 180 credits after the third year. With the scholarship the yearly payment is 8 000 EUR.

Possible Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is not valid when considering scholarships. Only credits completed at another Finnish higher education institution during your study time will be taken into consideration. CampusOnline and exchange studies are considered into your studies, if they are completed during your active study time in Finnish higher education institution.

Scholarship for Internal transfer student

In the case of a internal transfer student (a person changing degree programmes or study programmes within LAB), it is sufficient to have completed 60 credits per year at LAB UAS to be eligible for a scholarship.

The scholarship is 50% discount for those who started their studies before Autumn 2026.
The scholarship is 3 000 EUR discount for those who started in Autumn 2026 or later.

A student must complete 60 credits during the first academic year to be eligible for the scholarship. During the second and third year, the credits must accumulate steadily over the duration of your studies. Bachelor's degree programmes: 60 credits after the first year, 120 credits after the second year and 180 credits after the third year. For Master programs there are no scholarships available starting from Autumn 2026 intake.

Possible Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is not valid when considering scholarships. Only credits completed at LAB University of Applied Sciences during your study time will be taken into consideration. CampusOnline and exchange studies are considered into your studies, if they are completed during your active study time at LAB UAS.

The annual tuition fee remains as it has been from the beginning of your studies at LAB.

Scholarship for new students accepted via separate application based on Open UAS studies

From 2026: The annual tuition fee is determined according to the current tuition fee policy at LAB. After completing path studies (i.e. first-year studies, no additional studies via Open UAS are available), if you are admitted as a degree student, the tuition fee for students from the non-EU/EEA countries per academic year is 11 000 EUR for Bachelor's programs.

For your first year as a degree student no scholarships are available but you may avail the early bird discount. From Autumn 2026 onwards the discount is 2000 EUR. With the discount the first-year fee is 9 000 EUR. (For those who started their path studies in 2025, may still transfer to bachelor's degree studies with the 2025 pricing and avail the early bird discount price of 6 400 EUR.)

A student must complete 60 credits during the first degree year to be eligible for the scholarship in the future. The credits completed during your path studies or any other studies completed before your degree study time (RPL) will not be considered for the scholarship. During the second and third year, the credits must accumulate steadily over the duration of your studies: 60 credits after the first year, 120 credits after the second year and 180 credits after the third year. From Autumn 2026 the scholarship is 3 000 EUR discount on the annual fee. (For those who started their path studies in 2025 and transfer to degree studies from 1.8.2026 may still avail the 2025 scholarships.)

Graduation and overtime

Scholarship decisions and payment instructions

Starting from 2021 the yearly bachelor’s payment is 8 000 EUR or 4 000 EUR with the 50% scholarship. Corresponding master’s payments are 9 000 EUR and 4 500 EUR. For earlier intake groups the yearly amounts will remain unchanged.

Deadlines

Students studying in Spring starting groups are invoiced in October. Payment deadline for 4000 EUR is 31.10.

Students studying in Autumn starting groups are invoiced in May. Payment deadline for 4000 EUR is 31.5.

*The scholarship credits are checked in August and January.

Students who haven’t completed enough credits for the next year’s tuition fee scholarship, will receive payment instructions for the remaining 4000 EUR after the credit check.
