You can apply for exemption from the Swedish language studies if they are required for your degree and if you are a degree student at LAB. Exemption may be granted if

• your language of schooling is other than Finnish
• you have no previous studies in Swedish
• you have been diagnosed with a severe reading difficulty

Apply for an exemption by completing the application in elomake. Attach to your application for exemption a school certificate showing that you are exempt from Swedish, or a statement signed by a specialist confirming that you have a reading difficulty. 

Apply exemption from the written (Swedish in Technology / Business / Art and Design, written OR Swedish in the Workplace (Welfare), written) and oral (Swedish in Technology / Business / Art and Design, oral OR Swedish in the Workplace (Welfare), oral) courses with same application.

Applications for exemption are processed by Johanna Marjomäki, Manager of the Language Centre. The decision on exemption is made by Pasi Puranen, Director of the Language Centre. 

A student who has been granted an exemption from Swedish studies (2 credits) must replace these credits with an equivalent number of other (language and communication) studies. The alternative studies must be agreed with the tutor.

You can only apply for an exemption from the English language in exceptional circumstances (e.g. if you have not studied English before). In such cases, please contact Kirsi Korkealehto (kirsi.korkealehto@lab.fi), Manager of the Language Centre.
