Problems with the Duo MFA?

All LAB students and employees have a personal AD domain username, i.e. a LUT account.
To receive the account, you must comply with the security rules.

Activating the account

New students will receive an email from student.ithelpdesk@lut.fi to their personal email address when the LUT account is ready for activation.
User accounts are activated in the LUT Account service, address https://id.lut.fi if you have personal identity code and Finnish online banking credentials. Log in to the service with your online banking codes, mobile certificate or ID card.

You need a valid international passport with you, and you have three options how the account can be activated:

Activating LUT account without Finnish banking credentials:

1. Signicat Identity Proofing Service

2. Visit Student IT Helpdesk Desk

3. Video-based authentication:

Only in cases where we have determined that you are unable to log in by other means, we will send you a booking code with which you can book an appointment for video authenticaton.

Book an appointment in the ID check online calendar. Add your name (given name + surname), email address, phone number and date of birth. You will receive an email confirmation after you have made the reservation.

The Microsoft Teams link can be found in the confirmation email. By clicking on the link, you join the video authentication.

- Make sure that the audio and video connection on your device is working.
- Have your passport and mobile phone ready. (In addition to the passport the identity can be verified from a valid ID card of an EU/EEA country, Finnish residence permit or Finnish driving license.)
- Make sure the room has adequate lighting.
- The booked time is only 15 minutes, so be on time.
After a successful identification wait for the password, username and email address. You will get them within two working days.
After you have received the temporary password, change it as soon as possible.

New students (LAB):

Exchange students and degree students: If you start your studies in Autumn of 2026 at LAB University of Applied Sciences, we will contact you on July 2026.
Summer courses: If you start your studies in Autumn of 2026 and you enroll for some summer courses before that time, we will contact you approximately one week after you have enrolled for the course.
LAB Summer School: If you are participating in LAB Summer School, we will contact you in Spring-Summer of 2026.

Please note that Student IT support Services may be busy (especially at the beginning of a new semester) and it may take several days before we can reply to you. Do not send multiple emails about the same issue, it will not speed up the process of your case at all.

Using LUT account:

Use your account to sign in to Moodle, Office 365 services, etc.
The email address is in the form firstname.surname@student.lab.fi.
Test the functionality of your account by logging in to the email at: https://outlook.office.com/lab.fi

Password instructions:

The password must be at least 16 characters long and meet the conditions defined in the LUT Account service.
Change a forgotten or expired password through the LUT Account service.
The password is valid for 1 year, after which it must be changed.
