Parking changes at Lappeenranta campus – questions and answers

Please note that parking at the Lappeenranta campus is now subject to a fee

The renewal of the parking system was necessary to ensure the availability of spaces, reduce incorrect parking, and support our climate goals. We fully understand that the change raises questions and concerns. Parking is an important factor for many in terms of everyday convenience.

We have also updated the new instructions on Lappeenranta Campus -page.

Why were the changes made?

We understand well that the price increase and changes may feel significant and raise concerns.

There are several reasons behind the decision:

  • Prices have remained the same for a long time. The increase was planned already in 2022 but postponed due to the front yard renovation.
  • Comparison with other higher education institutions and local operators shows that our prices are still among the most affordable.
  • The summer credit is included in the annual fees, and the parking permit can also be paid monthly.

We understand that for student or those who visit campus occasionally, the costs may feel high. That’s why we added the hourly-based short-term parking area to allow flexible visits to campus. We continuously develop parking practices and take feedback seriously. The goal of the change is to ensure the availability of spaces for those who need them most.

LUT Universities are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. In both institutions, the majority of emissions fall under Scope 3, meaning they are so-called indirect emissions. The largest sources of these indirect emissions are commuting – staff and student travel, business trips, and dining on campus. More information about LUT’s and LAB’s climate work can be found in the sustainability reports of both organizations.

We encourage staff and students to prioritize carpooling, public transport, and cycling. We are happy to develop these alternatives together.

Below we have compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
